My Sister's Big Fat Indian Wedding by Sajni Patel

Zurika "Zuri" Damani is a gifted contemporary musician with a talent for producing classical-hip hop beats on her violin. But in her big Indian family, where both her parents and older sisters are lawyers, Zuri doesn't exactly fit in. Her family likes Zuri's passion for the violin, but they consider it a hobby, not a career. They want her to become a lawyer, like all of them.

Zuri has applied to colleges she knows she won't get into as pre-law, and instead focuses on schools for music. Every single college has been a rejection, and after being denied admission by Julliard, Zuri has only one hope left.

A music competition is being judged by college scouts from some of the best colleges for music, including Julliard! There's just one problem: the competition is happening at the same time as Zuri's sister's wedding.

If Zuri misses this wedding for her music, it will cause some problems, especially because she's tried to do it before, and it did not end well. She has been warned many times to not miss another sister's wedding, and if she does, she's done for.

Even throughout all of the craziness of the wedding week and Zuri's plans to go to the competition, Zuri's mom is also set on matching her with Naveen, and although Zuri doesn't want to, she realizes that both she and Naveen have a lot in common in terms of music and their family's expectations of them, and Naveen's auditioning in the music competition too. But his talent in voice means some competition for Zuri and her violin.

This is one crazy week but with some people by her side, Zuri can get through it, show Julliard her talents, and maybe even get accepted. Zuri has promised her family that she won't cause any trouble, but this is her one final chance, and what could go wrong?
