17 year old Maya Aziz dreams of studying film at New York University. And, the best part is that she's already been accepted. But there is one obstacle: her parents.
On spring break, Maya's life turns upside down. She meets Kareem, a sophomore at Princeton studying engineering. She also gets to know more about Phil, a classmate who she's had a crush on forever and will only grow deeper while she's helping him with his book report.
Instead of following her dreams, Maya's parents want her to go to the University of Chicago (which she's also been accepted at) and become a lawyer. And after that, marry a suitable Indian man, like Kareem. The only people who understand her dreams are her best friend Violet and her Aunt, Hina.
Maya also still has to break the news to her parents that she's been accepted to NYU and would rather go there than the University of Chicago. And what if they say no?
As her senior year goes by, will Maya figure out a way to make her dreams of NYU and independence come true?
Funny and moving, this book shows what it's like to pursue your dreams without caring what someone else thinks.
📚📚📚📚- A really good book
