Hello! Welcome back to another post! In this post, I will be talking about the sequel to Front Desk by Kelly Yang. It is called Three Keys. It is an amazing book focusing on immigrants, friendship, and hope.
The Calvista Motel, after a rough year, seems to be doing great. Hank, one of Mia's friends, has even put up a sign that says IMMIGRANTS WELCOME. Mia and Lupe are better friends than ever, and Mia's mom is teaching math to the immigrants that come to the Motel. Everything seems perfect until Lupe's dad is sent to jail because he is an undocumented immigrant and Hank is fired because of the color of his skin.
On top of that, 6th grade is NOT what Mia expected. Her new teacher Mrs. Welch gives her bad grades on her writing, which is Mia's passion. She also seems to be in favor of Prop. 187 which stops undocumented immigrants for having healthcare and education.
Will Mia warm up to 6th Grade? What will happen to Lupe's parents? Will Prop. 187 get passed? What happens when Mia's American and Asian identities collide? Read this awesome book
