Book Review-Right As Rain by Lindsey Stoddard

Rain Andrew knows that it's all her fault.

It's her fault that she has to move from quiet Vermont to loud New York City. It's her fault that her parents are practically divorced. And it's her fault that her brother died a year ago, even though no one knows that she was responsible for it.

For almost a year, Rain has kept Guthrie’s death buried at the bottom of her heart. All she wants to do is forget it ever happened, because hoping for someone to come back from the dead never made them actually come back. And that’s a fact.

So when Rain’s mom suggests moving to New York from Vermont before the school year ends, Rain’s not opposed to the idea. She’d rather give up her best friend Izzie, track coach, Ms. Carol, and everything she’s ever known than have to walk by Guthrie's room every single day to remind her of what she did.

The Big Apple is not at all like Vermont. Rain has to do community service, write poetry, take over a spot on the track team, and get used to new friends and new cultures all around her.

Soon, Rain gets involved in community service to save Ms. Dacie's, a house where kids can go and get homework help, make friends, bake cookies, and feel comfortable and at home. But when an offer on the house comes up, threatening to make Ms. Dacie and all the kids she has helped over the years to lose their home, Rain wants to help. And so do all the other kids. They have a plan. A plan that needs to work. They can't lose Ms. Dacie.

As the track championship and saving Ms. Dacie's takes over Rain's brain, Guthrie's death anniversary

draws closer and closer. Rain needs to face the truth of what happened on June 16, and she needs to face it now. Because when you bury something deep, it grows up twice as tall.

Will Rain help save Ms. Dacie's? Will Rain's parent's split up or break apart? Can Rain face the truth about her brother's death, and accept what happened?
