Amina Khokar has always felt shy.
She has a beautiful voice, she’s just too afraid to use it. Besides, she has enough to think about. Her best friend Soojin is thinking about changing her name which makes Amina feel that her best friend is losing her unique identity. Not to mention one of the most popular girls in the grade, Emily, who has always made fun of Soojin and Amina, is now stealing their friendship.
Things are changing for this eleven year old in her small home of Milwaukee. Her uncle Thaya Jaan and parents want her to participate in a Quaran competition. Not only memorizing, but speaking a verse from the holy book of the Muslims in front of at least a hundred people!?
When a horrible thing happens to their beloved mosque, Amina realizes that she can only save her world from tearing apart by standing up and speaking out.
Will Amina find her courage and speak out loud? Or will she cower in the corners, wishing she had?
