A Place at the Table by Saadia Faruqi & Laura Shovan

Sara Hameed and Elizabeth Shainmark are complete opposites.

When Elizabeth yearns to eat something other than frozen foods and Hot Pockets, Sara wants to get away from her mother's kitchen, where her mom runs her Pakistani catering business.

Sara's mom has just started teaching a cooking club at Poplar Springs Middle School. Elizabeth and her best friend Maddy join to spend more time together; but Elizabeth finds out that Maddy's new best friend, Stephanie has signed up too.

Sara would rather draw than cook, but she ends up being Elizabeth's partner because Maddy becomes Stephanie's cooking partner to help with Stephanie's cupcake business. Sara just moved from her small private school at her mosque to a huge middle school because her parents are having trouble with finances.

Elizabeth signed up because her Nan (Mom's mom) just died and all her mom wants to do is knit, listen to audiobooks, and talk to her sister, Aunt Louise. Her dad is away traveling for work all the time and Elizabeth wants to bring everyone together by putting delicious food on the table.

But Elizabeth and Sara have one thing in common. Both of their moms come from a different country (UK and Pakistan) and are applying to be a citizen; but getting them to study is harder than it seems.

Can Elizabeth and Sara find a way to blend the things they have in common together in order to create a new friendship? Read the book to find out!

📚📚📚📚- A beautiful book about friendship and finding your path
