Lucille Callahan is a math genius.
Eight year old Lucy Callahan was once struck by lightning. Because of that strike, the left lobe of her brain stopped working, causing the right lobe to work overtime. Lucy can solve division, multiplication, addition, and subtraction problems in her head, and not just one plus five. She can do 827,789 * 308,954 in a matter of seconds. Four years later, she has found an unsolvable problem: Middle School.
Lucy has been homeschooled all her life. She has completed high school and college level courses. She is smart, way smarter than the average 7th grader. Lucy also can't deal with germs. She always needs to clean down every surface, and use tons of hand sanitizer. She also has a Sit-Stand-Sit routine when ever she sits down. 10 minutes into the class, she has already been established as a freak. But she's made a friend. Windy Sitton loves talking, junk food, and activism. She also meets Levi, a boy who is always taking pictures and may be more of a friend than Lucy thought.
Lucy could only imagine if her school knew about the lightning strike and the math. And, to make matters worse, Lucy has already made her first enemy; Maddie Thornton. She also has to partner with Levi and Windy for her schools community service project.
But when Lucy goes to the Pet Hut for the first time and meets Pi, a cute mutt who was abandoned by his owner; she realizes she needs to help him. Sadly, Pi has ovarian cancer and no one will adopt him.
